Vila Pouca de Aguiar (Portugal) - from June 29 to July 6, 2024

From 29 June to 6 July 2024, during the 18th European Week of the UECT, cycle tourists from all over Europe will be welcomed at Vila Pouca de Aguiar (Portugal) town of 13,000 inhabitants, situated at an altitude of 771 metres, on the mythical N2 motorway, located 120 km to the north-east of Porto and 30 km north of Vila Réal. The Spanish border is only 50 km away and Santiago de Compostela 230 km away. >>> SITE MAP

Vila Pouca de Aguiar and its tourist surroundings are to be discovered on Planet Portugal it is a region close to the Douro, favorable to cycling with its small roads in a bucolic nature of high pastures.

The city qualifies as the capital of granite. This is justified by the extraordinary quality of marble from the mines exploited in the region.

The thermal baths of Pedras Salagas from which the waters of the famous Bock beer are drawn, are 6.5 km way and will host the Opening Ceremony of this event..

The climate is oceanic with temperate summers due to the nearby Atlantic Ocean, average summer temperatures of about 20 ° C – 27 ° C in July.

In close collaboration with the UECT, the Portuguese seorganisers of the FPC Cyclotourism Federation and the Municipality of Vila Pouca de Aguiar will welcome you at the "administrative" centre which will be located in the Dr Gomes da Costa Sports Pavilion - Av. Dr Carlos Alberto de Sousa - Vila Pouca de Aguiar  where the following events will take place :

The campsite:
Location and capacities  : the UECT federal campsite will be organised in the city into 6 distinct zones, as follows : :

- 4 areas motorhomes and caravans : football sports complex (grass) - shaded car park municipal swimming pool (Portuguese paving stones) - Marcahado pitch near swimming pool (grass) with a total capacity of 265 pitches and 199 electrical connections.
- 1 area tents : primary school near swimming pool (grassy ground and clay) with a total capacity of 54 pitches and 22 electrical connections.

Given the logistical constraints, it will not be possible to make cohabit :

• motorhomes – caravans with electrical connections and motorhomes – caravans without electrical connections.
• the motorhomes and caravans with tents.
  
  
• For owners of electrically-assisted bicycles, batteries can be recharged (at a charge) at a single fixed point on the school premises.

Excursions :
A tourist programme in the Trás-os-Montes area is proposed, see the programme it will allow you to discover a natural and historical environment.
Excursions reservations are made exclusively in advance via the electronic registration form.

Meals :
Breakfasts and dinners (reservations required) will take place from Saturday 29 June to Saturday 6 July 2024 in the restaurant area of the school building. There is no limit to the number of people who can be booked.
The closing dinner/gala will take place on Friday 5 July 2024 in the Hotel/Restaurant - Aguiar da Pena - Vila Pouca de Aguiar. A maximum of 250 people has been booked.
Meal reservations are made exclusively in advance via the electronic registration form.

Road bike routes:

It is planned (12/04/2024) :

• A 72 km discovery roads on saturday an a 67 km route on sunday with a gradient accessible to all trained cyclists
• From Monday to Friday, a choice of 3 roads each day with varying distances, short 30/45 km - medium 56/74 km - long 91/119 km with varying degrees of difficulty depending on the distance, but accessible to all trained cyclists
• We will be in a small mountain region, the courses on asphalt roads will have an altitude between 187 m and 1096 m, plan gears adapted to the ambitions of each one.
